LAS CRUCES - The City of Las Cruces has announced Hector Terrazas as its new Deputy Director for Natural Gas and Energy. Terrazas, a longtime city employee and accomplished civil engineer, stepped into the role earlier this month.

Terrazas began his career in public service in 2007 as a roadway inspector with the New Mexico Department of Transportation. In 2008, he joined the City of Las Cruces as a cooperative education student while pursuing a degree in civil engineering at New Mexico State University. After earning his bachelor’s degree in 2011, he transitioned to a full-time role as a Civil Engineer Associate with the city.

Over the years, Terrazas has achieved significant professional milestones, including earning his Professional Engineer licensure in 2015 and managing several major capital infrastructure projects. In 2018, he took on the role of Traffic Operations Engineer, where he tackled traffic issues and worked closely with city staff and residents. His career advanced further when he became a Senior Civil Engineer in 2022, and earlier this year, he obtained his Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification.

City officials praised Terrazas for his dedication and expertise, which have contributed to numerous successful projects across Las Cruces.

Terrazas now takes on a leadership position in the Natural Gas and Energy sector, where he is expected to play a key role in managing and developing critical resources for the community.
