LAS CRUCES - The Doña Ana Community College Library will host two film screenings in February in recognition of Black History Month. Both events are free and open to the public, though registration is required due to limited seating.

The first screening, Alice, will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the East Mesa Campus Library, 2800 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd., building DAAR, room 203F. Released in 2022 and inspired by true events, the film follows a woman’s journey from enslavement to freedom, incorporating elements of historical and contemporary themes.

The second screening, Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings the Band, is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27, at noon at the Espina Campus, 3400 S. Espina St., in the DASH building, room 98. The 2015 documentary explores the life of jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Mary Lou Williams, whose contributions influenced the swing and bebop movements.

Light refreshments will be provided at both events. Registration is required and can be completed HERE.
