LAS CRUCES - Parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to ensure their car seats are properly installed and safe during a free Car Seat Inspection Clinic on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024.

The event, hosted by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division and Safer New Mexico Now, will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sisbarro Buick-GMC, 425 West Boutz Road in Las Cruces.

Expert assistance for families

Certified child passenger safety technicians will provide hands-on guidance in selecting, installing and using car seats and booster seats. Each inspection takes approximately 30 minutes and includes education on common car seat errors and safety tips.

If a car seat is determined to be unsafe due to expiration, recall or other issues, replacement seats will be available. A $35 replacement fee may apply, and the child must be present for a replacement.

What to bring

To ensure a smooth inspection, attendees should bring:

  • Their car seat
  • The car seat manual
  • Their vehicle’s owner's manual
  • The child, if possible

Inspections are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are needed.
