Heinrich begins third term as U.S. senator representing New Mexico
Senator to serve in key roles on energy, appropriations and intelligence committees in 119th Congress

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) was sworn in Tuesday for his third term representing New Mexico in the U.S. Senate. Heinrich emphasized his commitment to addressing economic challenges, energy policy, and public safety.
“I am honored to have been elected by New Mexicans to serve a third term in the United States Senate,” Heinrich said in a statement. “In this new Congress, I look forward to continuing to deliver for the people and places of New Mexico — never wavering in the fight to lower costs for working families, grow our economy, unlock our clean energy future, and keep our communities safe.”
Committee assignments
In the 119th Congress, Heinrich will serve as the Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The committee oversees national energy policies, public land management under the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service, the Department of Energy and policies related to U.S. territories and nuclear waste.
Heinrich will also continue his roles on the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Joint Economic Committee.

- Senate Artificial Intelligence Caucus
- Senate Fusion Energy Caucus
- Bicameral Electrification Caucus
- International Conservation Caucus
- Senate Outdoor Recreation Caucus

- Senate Democratic Hispanic Task Force
- National Service Congressional Caucus

Heinrich is also the founder of the Congressional Directed Energy Caucus.
