LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces Public Libraries are once again embracing the season of giving with its fifth annual Mitten Tree project, collecting essential items for local shelters now through Dec. 21, 2024.

Over the past four years, the project has received more than 2,000 donations, helping individuals and families in need.

Community members are encouraged to bring new or gently used items such as hats, mittens, scarves, socks, jackets, coats, sweaters, blankets and unopened toiletries to any library branch. Items can be placed on the Mitten Tree at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library or incorporated into festive displays at the Sage and Munson branches.

After the collection period ends on Dec. 21, the libraries will distribute the items to local organizations, including La Casa, Gospel Rescue Mission and Community of Hope.

For information about the Mitten Tree project, contact Elizabeth Puckett, outreach and marketing librarian, at 575-777-0874 or by email at epuckett@lascruces.gov.

This holiday season, make a difference by contributing to the Mitten Tree and supporting those in need.
