LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces residents can participate in free Mental Health First Aid certification classes this December, designed to equip participants with the skills to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The classes, held at the Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd., are offered at no cost to the public.
Adult Mental Health First Aid
The Adult-English MHFA class, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is open to individuals aged 18 and older. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn how to assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis or related challenges.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
The Youth-English MHFA class, tailored for adults who work closely with adolescents aged 12-18, will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn strategies to help young people navigate both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Both classes provide an 8-hour certification and are part of an ongoing initiative to expand mental health resources across Doña Ana County. Spanish-language sessions will also be available at later dates.
How to Register
Registration is required for both sessions and can be completed online. For additional information, call 575-525-5870 or email MHFA@DonaAnaCounty.org.
These classes offer an opportunity for community members to learn potentially life-saving skills and support those in need.
