LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces firefighter sustained a minor injury Tuesday afternoon while working to extinguish a residential fire on the 3900 block of Crystal Place.

The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 26, 2024. Upon arrival, fire crews found flames consuming the back porch of the home and spreading into the attic.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes and conducted a thorough search of the home, rescuing two cats in the process. While at least two residents and their pets were displaced, there were no reported injuries among the occupants.

The injured firefighter was treated for a minor injury and is expected to recover.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available.

Residents Displaced, Pets Saved

The quick response by Las Cruces firefighters ensured the fire was contained before it caused further destruction. However, the incident left the residents temporarily displaced.

Fire officials remind the community to remain vigilant about fire safety, especially as colder weather sets in and the use of heating equipment increases.
